The rental car is one of the best options to explore Costa Rica.
It is important to realize that driving conditions in Costa Rica are may not be not as good as in some countries. Although Costa Rica is working to implement a road sign. In some areas, you find very few indications, dirt roads and many potholes.
Road book from the San Jose airport (SJO Juan Santamaria)
- Exit the airport on the right and take the ramp onto Autopista General Cañas / Road 1.
- Proceed approximately 7.5 km on Road 1, then turn right towards El Coyol Radial.
- Take the 1st right and continue on Radial El Coyol, crossing the roundabout.
- Drive about 4.5 km, then at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Road 27.
- Travel approximately 53 km on Road 27 (toll road), followed by about 17 km on Road 23.
- Follow the directions to Cañas / Liberia on Road 1.
- Drive approximately 50 km to Limonal, then turn left at the gas station onto Road 18.
- Continue about 50 km on Road 18 (crossing the Amistad bridge) and turn right towards Nicoya on Road 21.
- Travel about 13 km on Highway 21, then at Burger King, turn left towards Playa Samara on Road 150.
- Cross Nicoya and proceed about 37 km to Playa Samara.
- Upon reaching Samara, turn right, passing by the Catholic Church.
- Drive approximately 1 km to the intersection, then turn right, passing Iguana Verde, and after 200 m, turn slightly left.
- The hotel will be located 150 m on your right.
